                 Botanical Family: Rutaceae (citrus)

 

                 Extraction Method/Origin: Solvent extraction or vacuum distilled; pressed from rind or peel; rectified and void of terpenes – Italy, Ivory Coast

 

                 Chemical Constituents: Monoterpenes: d-limonene (>30%), ꝩ-terpinene, α & β-pinenes; Esters: linalyl acetate (usually around 20%); Alcohols: linalol, geraniol, nerol, α-terpineol; Sesquiterpenes: β-caryophyllene, β-bisabolene; Furanocoumarins; Aldehydes.

 

                 Properties: Analgesic, antibacterial (strep and staph infection), anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, digestive, sedative, and uplifting.

 

                 Folklore: Christopher Columbus is credited with bringing bergamot to Italy from the Canary Islands.

 

                 Historical Uses: Bergamot was used by the Italians to cool and relieve fevers, protect against malaria, and expel intestinal worms.

 

                 French Medicinal Uses: Agitation, appetite (loss of), colic, depression, indigestion, infection, inflammation, insect repellent, insomnia, intestinal parasites, rheumatism, stress, and vaginal candida.

 

                 Other Possible Uses: This oil may help acne, anxiety, regulate appetite, boils, bronchitis, carbuncles, cold sores, oily complexion, coughs, cystitis, digestion, eczema, emotions, endocrine system, fever, gallstones, gonorrhea, infectious disease, insect bites, soothe lungs, psoriasis, respiratory infection, scabies, sore throat, nervous tension, thrush, acute tonsillitis, ulcers, urinary tract infection, spot varicose veins, and wounds.

 

                 Body System(s) Affected: Digestive System, Emotional Balance, Skin

 

                 Aromatic Influence: It may help to relieve anxiety, depression, stress, and tension. It is uplifting and refreshing. It helps to expand and open the heart chakra, and to radiate love energy.

 

                 Application: Apply to forehead, temples, Vita Flex Points, and/or directly on area of concern; Diffuse. May also be applied as a deodorant or added to food or water as a dietary supplement.

 

                 Oral Use As Dietary Supplement: Generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA. Dilute one drop oil 1 tsp. honey or 4 oz. of beverage (i.e. soy/rice milk). Not for children under 6 years old; use with caution and in greater dilution for children 6 years old and over.

 

                 Safety Data: Repeated use can result in extreme contact sensitization. Avoid direct sunlight or ultra-violet light for up to 72 hours after use.

                

                 Blend Classification: Equalizer, Modifier, and Enhancer

 

                 Blends With: Chamomile, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, jasmine, juniper, lavender, lemon, palmarosa, patchouli, and ylang ylang.
